Hello friends! How’ve you been and how do you feel about birthdays?
How’s August looking for you?
Love and birthdays are mutually inclusive.
Many of us have expressed how indifferent and unthrilled we are about birthdays. I can’t say the same when it’s ten days to the day. Every activity, every detail that somehow captures the date stirs my heart like an inferno. I get enthralled. Deep down, I’d love to be dazed with a good birthday treatment from my loved ones.
I’ve also heard people embellish their words when they express how long they can live without any form of attention; they go on and on, insisting they don’t need some love. I watched my younger brother pretend not to need attention, but as I struck a glance on him tenderly, he melted at my gaze.
Everyone needs genuine love.
The Israelites thought they didn’t need God, but God knows how much we all need Him. He sees our empty hearts, longing for the wrong things and He keeps knocking, hoping we open up and let Him fill that void.
We don’t know how much we need God’s presence until He takes off His eyes for just one moment from us. David knew better when he cried out in Psalm 42,
“As the deer pants for the streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God”.
And when we come to the consciousness of His love, we get drunk. We’re sunk deep into his well of love, and we can burst out like David, “your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you” - Psalm 63:3
We need genuine love from others.
A love that reflects Christ.
A love that glorifies brotherhood.A love wrought with sacrifice.
A love that never insists on its own. I want that kind of love and I want to be able to give that kind of love.
Most of the struggles we face come from a place of not entering God’s rest. His rest is love. He has engraved us on the palm of His hand, so His gaze is always fixed on us.
And even when we go through deep waters, He comforts us, not just for our benefit, but for us to use same for others. His love is not selfish.
Oh that His love be shed abroad in the hearts of men.
Love makes people come to the knowledge of Christ as King.
His genuine love breaks the walls we’ve built around our hearts, softens it and makes it a well watered garden. Our hearts become streams of love, flowing from different channels and watering the hearts of men.
His love is yours. His love is mine.
Will you let Him love you, child?
Goodbyes
Love is more of an attitude, than a feeling.
